Leadership Skills
Activities in the ATC are fun, help promote team building and enjoyable. Why not join and challenge yourself?
Sports
Sports in the ATC is run at squadron level, Wing, Region and Corps level. The cadets have the opportunity to take part in football, swimming, athletics, rugby and netball.
This is excellent team building for the cadets as well as keeping them fit.
At squadron level we use Lynnsport Halls at Kings Lynn for monthly sport meetings as well as using the Walks area for rounders and football when the weather allows.
Radio Training
Cadets have the opportunity to learn Radio skills and to gain certificates as a Provisional Radio Operator and a Full Radio Operator
First Aid Training
St Johns Young Lifesaver Plus is taught on the squadron and badges and certificates are gained.
Activities
The Air Training Corps has opportunities to get involved in many different activities
Flying
Air Cadets have the opportunity to fly with Royal Air Force pilots in Tutor aircraft.
Flying takes place at one of 12 Air Experience Flights
(AEFs) where cadets are shown how the aircraft flies and given the
chance to control the aeroplane, experience aerobatics or simply admire
the view. All Air Cadets get the opportunity to fly with the AEF each
year.
The ACO has had the benefit of powered aircraft since 1957 with the introduction of venerable DeHavilland Chipmunk aeroplanes which were replaced by the Bulldog in 1996. The latest replacement - Grob Tutor - recently entered AEF service, replacing the Bulldog

Gliding
King's Lynn Squadron has allocated places at 611 VGS (Volunteer Gliding Squadron) for Gliding Induction Courses (GIC's). The cadets arrive at the old RAF Watton base at Stanta and are shown a safety video.
The cadets are then strapped into a Viking T mk1 Grob 103 glider. This is a conventional winch launch glider. After a full briefing surrounding the controls of the Aircraft, the aircraft is launched via a winch. The cadets are then taught how to control the aircraft and are allowed to take control.
Cadets can progress to a gliding scholarship where the ultimate aim is to fly the glider solo.
Adventure Training
Adventure Training is an essential part of an Air Cadets training syllabus. These activities help with team building as well as developing leadership skills.
King's Lynn Squadron takes part in all wing based activities including sending cadets on camps to Llanbedr and Windermere.
The squadron is also actively involved in running the D of E scheme, planning and completing expeditions which allow cadets to practise key navigation skills.
Cadets may also have the opportunity to attend courses for hang gliding, kayaking and micro-lights.
